Objective

To find a position where my technical, sales, key account management, managerial and interpersonal skills can be used to increase sales of a company and advance my career. I have 30 years experience in the large capital plant and engineering solutions industries.

I am looking in the East Midlands/East of England but am willing to commute/relocate

Experience

November 2016 – present    Marketing Manager

  • Reporting to Managing Director
  • Responsible for all aspects of Marketing, internal and external communications. Five direct reports
  • Successfully supported sales growth above the market to150M in 2019.
  • Responsible for P&L for marketing budget of £850k
  • Plan and implement trade show stands and customer open day activities.
  • Pioneered digital activities including website improvements and use of LinkedIn and Twitter as marketing tools. The UK is now seen globally as a flagship within the company worldwide for customer digital engagement.
  • Pioneered use of video content to replace written content to improve customer engagement
  • Conduct market research, compile and maintain database of competitors, activities and key customers. Use to support sales in targeting competitors business.
  • Managed complete rebranding of three sites to new logo and brand during 2019 within £160k budget
  • Represent the company on Cross Selling Team responsible for £40M of extra business by bundling technologies and sharing leads across divisions.
  • Represent the company at the British Fluid Power Association (industry body) and the National Fluid Power Centre Steering committee. (industry training body)
  • Represent the company within the community (town council, manufacturing association and engagement with local schools and colleges)

April 2015 – November 2016    Product Manager

  • Reporting to Managing Director
  • Responsible for selecting the products with a potential for the UK market from all global product launches.
  • Formulating a launch plan for each product including target customers and method of launch.
  • Liaise with global product management, producing plans and predictions for sales growth.
  • Market and competitor research and analysis on requirement for new products
  • Training UK sales and technical staff on new product features and benefits.
  • Represent the company at the British Fluid Power Association (industry body) and the National Fluid Power Centre Steering committee. (industry training body)

February 2006 – April 2015    UK Sales Manager – Mobile Hydraulics

  • Manage external sales team of 5 Key Account Managers and 4 Internal Sales staff
  • Responsible for total business unit sales target of £75 million in 2014
  • Major customers JCB (UK, USA and Germany), Caterpillar (UK, Belgium and France), Terex (UK), Komatsu (UK, Germany, Belgium and Japan).
  • Develop marketing plan for current and new products to target customers.
  • Liaise, negotiate prices and provide production plans to manufacturing plants in Germany, France, USA, Italy and Turkey.
  • Responsible for all areas of site management of the company’s Coventry facility. This is the Midlands sales office, service centre and logistic centre for Caterpillar.
  • Personally manage Caterpillar as Key Account Manager. Grew sales from £15M to £25M between 2006 and 2010
  • Represent the company at the British Fluid Power Association (industry body) and the National Fluid Power Centre Steering committee. (industry training body)

June 2000 – February 2006      UK Sales Manager – Industrial Hydraulics

  • Manage external sales team of 16 hydraulic sales engineers.
  • Set and monitor sales targets for the business unit .
  • Negotiate large project contracts with customers in both UK and mainland Europe.
  • Develop sales and marketing plan out to 2009 focusing on key target industries and customers.
  • Using strategic advertising campaigns to promote new products in the market

March 1996– April 2000    Manager – North American Operations

  • Manage all functions of the US operation of a German industrial machinery manufacturer.
  • Negotiate multi million dollar contracts on a technical and commercial level.
  • Increased sales of new machinery from $5 million in 1995 to $7 million in 1998 and $10 million in 1999.
  • Increased sales of spare parts from $300,000 to $1,300,000 p.a.
  • Conducted successful ad campaigns and mailshots to increase awareness of products to potential customers.
  • Plan and implement trade show stands.
  • Report directly to Managing Director in Germany.

1995–1996                   UK Sales Manager

  • Successfully managed transition from agency representation to direct handling of customers and increased sales revenue.
  • Worked alone in the UK and Ireland using self motivation and drive.
  • Reported to Sales Director in Germany.
  • Travelled extensively throughout Europe for Sales and Agent Liaison for sister company

1992–1995             Maintenance Manager

  • Managed a team of 45 multi disciplined technicians, tradesmen and foremen.
  • Implemented preventative maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns.
  • Implemented the company’s Investors in People program, teamworking and ISO 9001 within my area of responsibility.

1989–1992                   Development Engineer

  • Completed many design and build projects of custom machinery.
  • Developed new production methods to reduce costs.
  • Specified, installed and commissioned new machinery from outside suppliers for a £16 million project.

Master of Engineering Degree in Materials Process Engineering. (four year full time masters degree with industrial placements during holidays)
