BFPA Welcomes Simon Hastie as new Training Engineer
The BFPA is pleased to welcome Simon Hastie as our new Training Engineer. With 15 years of experience in the fluid power industry, Simon brings extensive technical knowledge and practical expertise. Many members will already know Simon from his work delivering BFPA training courses over the past four years. Speaking about his new role, Simon said:
“I’m excited to be representing the BFPA in the industry I’m passionate about. I look forward to helping develop skills, share knowledge, and support the next generation of engineers.”
We look forward to working with Simon as he helps support the development of skills and best practice across the fluid power industry.
Driving Safety Forward: The BFPA HSE Forum Takes Shape
Health and safety is critical in the fluid power industry, where high-pressure systems and complex environments demand the highest standards. Recognising this, the BFPA has made HSE a strategic priority, launching its HSE Forum to help members share knowledge, address challenges, and stay aligned with best practice.
The inaugural meeting in April 2026 brought together members, industry experts, and the HSE, providing valuable insights into regulatory priorities and setting the foundation for future collaboration. The next forum will feature Climate Action for Associations (CAFA), highlighting the growing link between safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.

BFPA Recruitment Support – Helping Members Find Industry Talent for over 25 Years
Finding skilled employees remains one of the biggest challenges facing the fluid power industry. For over 25 years, the BFPA has supported members by helping them attract engineers, technicians, apprentices, sales professionals and senior management personnel.
A key part of this free member benefit is the BFPA Careers Section, where companies can advertise vacancies directly to a targeted audience interested in hydraulics, pneumatics and fluid power technologies. Unlike general recruitment websites, the BFPA platform helps employers reach candidates with relevant industry interests and experience.

Celebrating 20 years of outstanding dedication and support to the Fluid power industry! Martin Kingsbury is celebrating 20 years of exceptional commitment and service to the British Fluid Power Association and its members. As Director of Membership and Learning Development, Martin has been instrumental in assembling and developing our suite of training courses and the growth in our membership. We thank him for his commitment and dedication and look forward to announcing the next phase of our training development.
A Message from Martin Kingsbury
As Martin celebrates 20 years with the BFPA, he has taken the opportunity to reflect on the people and experiences that have shaped his journey.
“I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere thanks to everyone who has been part of that journey. Over the last two decades, I have had the privilege of working with an incredible range of people across our industry. From colleagues and committee members to member companies, training delegates and industry partners, I have been fortunate to receive support, encouragement and friendship from so many individuals along the way.”

Mike Day
It is with great sadness that we recently learned of Mike’s passing. Mike was a stalwart of both the industry and the Association, renowned for his exceptional understanding of contamination control and his willingness to share that knowledge with others. For many years, Mike chaired one of the BSI technical committees MCE 18/-/6 overseen by the BFPA, making a significant contribution to the development and maintenance of industry standards. His expertise, professionalism and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and peers alike. Mike had an uncanny ability to bring clarity to even the most complex technical issues. He did so without fuss or fanfare, presenting his views with calm authority and a depth of knowledge that was second to none. When Mike spoke, people listened—not only because of his expertise, but because they knew his insights were thoughtful, balanced and well informed.
Beyond his technical accomplishments, Mike will be remembered as a genuine gentleman who gave generously of his time and knowledge for the benefit of the wider fluid power community.
He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside him, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time.
