IMH promotes former apprentice to Service Coordinator as it doubles down on talent development

18 Sep 2025

Industrial and Marine Hydraulics (IMH) has promoted Nick Colman to Service Coordinator, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to developing its people and strengthening its service division.

Nick joined IMH in 2022 as the firm’s first operations apprentice, completing a Level 3 Business Administration qualification as part of his programme. He became Graduate Service Coordinator in 2024—a role created to harness his strengths in process improvement and customer support—and has now stepped up to lead day-to-day coordination of IMH’s service engineers and incoming service requests.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to promote Nick,” said Ian Bannister, Engineering Manager at IMH. “He’s excelled over the past 12 months—taking on quoting and organising teams for customer jobs—which has allowed me to focus on developing the division. We recruit apprentices to future-proof the business and create real career pathways, and Nick is a great example of that.”

“I’m so grateful for the opportunities IMH has given me,” added Nick Colman. “I’ve been encouraged to refine how we work and improve processes for the benefit of our customers. Building relationships has taken me onto client sites to scope work, see projects through from first engagement to completion, and free up colleagues’ time.”

IMH launched its apprenticeship programme in 1995, initially targeting one apprentice every two years, and has since exceeded that ambition. The business expects to appoint its 30th apprentice this year. Founder Paul Griffiths MBE recently received a lifetime achievement award recognising his commitment to nurturing talent and supporting the Teesside community.

Congratulations, Nick — from everyone at the BFPA.
