BFPA makes its presence felt at the 2019 Annual CBI Conference and receives International coverage!

27 Nov 2019

This years annual CBI Conference was always going to be an interesting and contentious affair with all of the main party leaders vying for attention and each trying to persuade the voters to give them that all too elusive majority. (Heaven forbid that the election yields yet another hung parliament!)

However, this year BFPA hit the headlines including national television when BFPA CEO Chris Buxton posed some rather challenging if topical questions to two of the party leaders; Jeremy Corbin and Joe Swinson. His line of questioning focussed upon the all-important need for a sound Government industrial strategy and challenged the shadow prime minister to explain how a four day week would help resolve the productivity crisis in the UK.   Questions to the Liberal Party leader were equally challenging and resulted in great applause from the other conference attendees. Subsequently, press and media coverage was significant with reports in many of the papers and even an appearance on BBC News!

When asked about the event Chris commented that whilst the content of the questions was highly relevant and important to the BFPA members he was especially pleased that the name of the British Fluid Power Association had been given such wide and explicit coverage in the media! In a light hearted response he added, “Our promotional budget would not normally stretch to National TV so this exposure was very welcome!  Going forwards we may have to settle for the trade press – but you never know!”Subsequent coverage included many of the Broad sheets, some of the Tabloids and even German television.

On a more serious note, the BFPA continues to work with Government and BEIS in pressing for a coherent and supportive Industrial strategy irrespective of which party wins and irrespective of BREXIT.
