Hull-based safety expert relocates Industrial Hose Division to a new £2m purpose-built facility

UK Safety Expert and BFPDA member Arco has recently moved its Industrial Hose Division to a new larger facility of 17,500m3, next door to Arco’s National Distribution Centre (NDC), on the outskirts of Hull. As one of the UK’s biggest industrial hose distributors, the new facility contains a dedicated and comprehensive range of industrial hose solutions suitable for all types of industries and applications.

As part of Arco’s investment programme, the new £2m purpose-built facility provides increased storage capacity as well as improved efficiencies for working and more accessible machinery, allowing for quicker turn-around of customer orders, with the majority of stock lines orders processed in less than 24 hours.

The new facility also contains a dedicated workroom area, featuring an upstairs mezzanine for small hose assembly with bench top working and a new flexible working space downstairs to enable projects of different sizes and capacities to be accommodated. Significant investment in equipment has allowed the team to add a custom-made test container for pressure testing larger assemblies, alongside two smaller fully contained cabinets, creating a safer working environment for operatives whilst ensuring that all hoses are safe to use for their intended application. The facility also houses an office on-site for its specialist customer service team who offer customers expert guidance on choosing the right hose products, as well as advice on hose safety and relevant legislation.

Hoses are used in a wide variety of companies in many sectors, from workshops and light manufacturing businesses, to large utilities, heavy manufacturing and offshore drilling operations. The right hose products are essential for efficient operations, as well as for worker safety, so it is important to get the right products, at the right specifications, tested and fit for each application.

Providing customers with reliable equipment, Arco Industrial Hose Division offers customers access to over 3,000 product lines and over 600,000 meters of hose. Working each year with more than 4,000 trading accounts, the team has over 200 years of industry knowledge enabling them to deliver expert advice on an array of hose products and applications.

Daniel Frith, Product & Procurement Manager – Industrial Hose, said: “The move to this new facility will provide greater storage capacity for our products and a working environment that’s more flexible for the team, meaning that we can sustain and even improve upon our current customer service levels, as well as enable our future growth ambitions.”

Gates delivers new webinar series to meet market’s demand for increased online support

BFPA member Gates, a leading global provider of application-specific fluid power and power transmission solutions, has unveiled a new series of short technical and commercial webinars designed to increase support for its industrial product ranges throughout EMEA. The webinar sessions will allow Gates’ technical experts the opportunity to address specific topics, ranging from live product unveilings, a virtual tour of the testing facility to technical trainings on safety, and provide technical support and improved access to essential data.

Gates recently released a number of fluid power and power transmission product-focused webinars to pilot the program which were met with great success, this included a live unveiling of the new MXG™ 4K hose.

The new webinar series will include additional product-focused offerings as well as technical trainings. Gates’ ‘Crimper Training’, for example, will review practicalities involved with hose assemblies, identify safety measures to consider and outline steps to prevent contamination. The ‘e-Crimp’ webinar will provide users with enhanced product information as well as tips and tricks as how to access the most appropriate data available to ensure the most effective and efficient crimping results. Subsequent webinars will also include in-depth technical case studies, as well as solutions to overcome common problems that may emerge in the field and additional subject areas identified by distributors, who are often the first call for technical support.

Full details of the webinar schedule (upto December 2020) and details as how to register are available from: https://www.gates.com/gb/en/knowledge-centre/training/live-webinars.html

University of Bath, Centre for Power Transmission & Motion Control

We would like to update you on how we are adapting the Centre’s course offerings to the current situation. Just last week, we successfully held our on-line course “FP1 Introduction to hydraulic circuits and components” and we will be running “FP2 Component selection for hydraulic systems”, 3-6 November 2020 before offering our unique “FPN Noise in hydraulic systems” course 27-29 January 2021. Due to the unclear development of Covid restrictions and the positive feedback from our first online course, we have decided to run all courses as online courses until summer 2021 and we also have a new date for the postponed Electrical Drives course: 20-23 April 2021.

If you sign up to our online courses, you will be given early access to pre-recorded lectures and notes. Then, during the scheduled dates, there will be a suggested order of lectures and exercises. At specific times throughout the week, we will conduct live sessions for those exercises as well as for general questions and answers.  You will also have the opportunity to use the chat and email systems to send questions to staff. We believe that this allows the best mixture of flexibility and interactivity given the ongoing situation. Our upcoming courses are, in order of dates:

FP2 Component selection for hydraulic systems

3-6 November 2020 (online)

FPN Noise in hydraulic systems

27-29 January 2021 (online)

This is a great opportunity to participate in this specialist course which we do not offer on a regular basis. We have now had enough interest to confirm the dates. This course teaches the sources and propagation of noise in hydraulic systems, discusses how we can measure noise levels and introduces countermeasures.

FP1 Introduction to hydraulic circuits and components

16-19 February 2021 (online)

FP2 Component selection for hydraulic systems

9-12 March 2021 (online)

ED Electrical drives for mechanical engineers

20-23 April 2021 (online)

FP3 Hydraulic systems and efficiency

11-14 May 2021 (online)

FPC Control of electrohydraulic systems

8-11 June 2021 (online)

or choose the 2-day course:

C Introduction to control of mechatronic systems

8-9 June 2021 (online)

After this date, we hope to return to in-person courses. You can visit our website for the complete list of courses
