Remembering Luis Moreiras

27 Jan 2021

Ted Amling writes “It is with much sadness and regret that we inform you about the death of our friend and ISO standard colleague, Mr. Luis Moreiras, who passed away on Friday 18 December surrounded by his family. Our thoughts are with Sindy, his wife and her family in this difficult time.

Lou was born in Spain in 1946, moved via Cuba to the USA and earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Cleveland State University in 1975. Lou worked at Weatherhead Company and then Parker Hannifin for 32 years, retiring in 2009.

He has participated with the ISO/TC 131/SC 4 for over 28 years, where he was a staunch advocate for industry safety and product standardisation. Lou was always willing to share his wide knowledge of hose, fittings, and testing within all working groups of both TC 45/SC 1 and

TC 131/SC 4, where he acted as the Chairperson. Lou was very well respected by all members and one of the corner stones of our ISO technical committees. His depth of knowledge and his experience steered our ISO work in the right direction for many years and his legacy will live on in the standards we wrote and published.

We will always remember him as a mentor and friend, for his passion during meetings, and for his joy for life.”

Ted Amlin succeeds Luis Moreiras as Convenor of ISO/TC 131/SC 4.
