Q4 Surveys show 2018 ended the year well

The three quarterly trend surveys for Q4/18 indicate that the fourth quarter was good one for the industry. For hydraulics, offshore and mobile markets performed best, while pneumatic end user markets remaining strong were food and drink, machine tools and mechanical handling. Manufacturers’ distribution sales remained strong in the fourth quarter, while the distributor survey indicated strength in industrial, offshore and MRO markets. The first quarter of 2019 is expected to be strong, although business sentiment among hydraulic and distributor companies fell in these surveys.

End User Industry Output Charts

BFPA monitors a few relevant end user production indices and presents them in the results of its monthly surveys. The latest version (using November results) is presented below for IOP 28 which includes the manufacture of hydraulics and pneumatics, IOP 29 which is an end user industry for fluid power equipment and also total manufacturing. The longer term trends reflect the buoyant fluid power market and recent declines reported in the automotive industry.

2018 BFPA Annual Surveys

All BFPA and BFPDA members have been invited to reply to the 2018 annual surveys, which as always will be conducted under BFPA’s very strict confidentiality rules. These surveys are unique in the industry and only available to members who reply. Replies are coming in but please send yours as soon as possible if you haven’t already done so!

As always there is an open invitation at the start of each year to any member who would like to join our monthly surveys (we have three surveys for: hydraulic, pneumatic and distributors). These useful monthly surveys are in the form of indices and track the latest market conditions in the industry (see the chart below for an illustrative guide):
