Since joining BFPA in 2014 Chris has introduced a complete strategic review of the business and a change programme focussed upon delivering greater added value to the member companies. As part of that process he instigated the creation of the UK Motion Control Alliance (UK MCA); an initiative designed to recognise UK industry trends towards automation and integrated motion control solutions.
Prior to this appointment he was the CEO of the Processing & Packaging Machinery Group. (incorporating PPMA, BARA, PMMDA and the UKIVA) – a role that he held for over eight years. During that time he successfully integrated four trade associations into one cohesive body speaking with one voice.
He joined the organisation from BAE Systems where he was responsible for their Sales & Marketing Naval Operations. The latter two years of his career at BAE were spent on secondment to the UK Cabinet Office where he was one of four industry representatives working on a PM sponsored initiative to reduce the burden of inappropriate and disproportionate regulation on the private sector.
Prior to BAE Chris held a number of senior management positions including Marketing Director for Brown & Root Services, Sales & Marketing Director of Dalkia Energy and Technical Services Ltd., Marketing Manager for Taylor Woodrow Mgt. & Engineering and Regional Business Manager for Perkin Elmer Nuclear Systems.
He is a Chartered Physicist and spent a number of years in research at the Royal College of Science and the MRC at Cambridge where he was working on the structural analysis of Cancer related plasma proteins.
Since then the primary thrust of his professional experience has been in Business Development, and Strategic Market Planning. He is noted for his seemingly endless energy and commitment to the cause of British industry.

Martin is one of the longest standing members of the BFPA staff having joined the Association in 2006. As Membership and Training Director he prides himself on having an excellent knowledge of the membership and the kind of industry insight that enables the BFPA to offer member companies real added-value from their membership. This insight is also of great value when undertaking his other responsibilities for both BFPA training and the BFPDA Hose Accreditation Scheme.
Before joining BFPA Martin spent 23 years with Linde – a well-known German Hydraulics company and a long standing BFPA member.
He started his career as an apprentice for MG cars and has retained his interest in cars ever since although much of his spare time is now spent riding his Harley Davidson – a passion that he shares with his wife who also owns her own ‘Harley’.”
Janet manages the Association’s Events, including the Dorchester Dinner & Ball, Members’ Networking Dinner, BFPA/BFPDA AGMs, UK & International Exhibitions, Golf Society meetings, and ad hoc seminars and conferences.
She provides secretarial support to Board meetings and to the Publicity Committee meetings. Janet has worked for the BFPA since 2010 and her previous experience was in sales administration and HR administration.

Statistics & Marketing Manager
Sarah’s background is in marketing and market research. She manages the BFPA’s trend surveys, the BFPA Market Forecasting and Statistics Committee and the annual economic industry forecasts.
She monitors the official statistics relevant to fluid power published by the Office for National Statistics, HM Revenue & Customs and Eurostat and is also responsible for the UK’s statistical exchange programmes which have been developed over the years with CETOP, the European Trade Federation for fluid power trade associations.
Sarah has worked for the BFPA since 1995 and therefore has accumulated many years’ experience and knowledge of the hydraulic and pneumatic industries.

Standards Project Manager
Having started my working life as a ‘mail girl’ in the post room of Alcan Industries located in Banbury, Oxfordshire, I was given the opportunity to work within all departments – accounts, printing, reception etc.
My favourite, at the time, being reception where we were taught to operate the “dolls eye” switchboard, now a distant memory and how technology has moved on!
Having taken the path to become a secretary, therefore acquiring English, typing and shorthand qualifications, I became a personal assistant to Board directors for many years within IBM, TV Times and Porter Novelli (PR Consultancy).
Eleven years ago I joined the BFPA as Standards Project Manager. The BFPA acts as external secretary on behalf of the British Standards Institution (BSI) with around 500 standards of fluid power industry standards under our remit. As Secretary to 21 technical committees, no two days are the same but my organisational and procedures expertise are constantly put to use.
Outside of the office I love walking, gardening and history. I am passionate about conservation and protecting Mother Earth and her wildlife.

Karen Gordon- Brander
As administrator for the BFPA, my role is always varied, which is just how I like it! My background in Further Education teaching has proved to be ideal in supporting the BFPA Membership Director in matters of both training and membership. In the area of training, my responsibilities range from dealing with our different training providers to create certificates for all the students who have successfully completed the BFPA courses. I deal with all new membership enquiries and ensure our members records are kept up to date on our database and website.
Other general administration responsibilities include managing BFPA’s member website vacancy service and adverts, coordinating accreditation visits, certificates and approvals for BFPA’s Approved Hose Assemblies Scheme, dealing with orders for BFPA’s publications, as well as being Secretary for BFPA’s Education and Training Committee.
When at home I relax by walking our three dogs, gardening, reading and planning weekends away in our caravan.
