CETOP Market Outlook Conference October 2021

21 Oct 2021

Several CETOP fluid power trade associations came together for a virtual Fluid Power Market Outlook web conference, held on 7 October 2021.

All the presentations can also be downloaded from the BFPA Members Login pages under MEMBERS STATISTICS / CETOP / ISC Meetings – Proceedings of Interest but are included in this article as downloads (please contact BFPA for your Login details).

The meeting opened with a presentation by Anke Uhlig of the VDMA “End of the race to catch up in sight?” which highlighted the differences in depths of pandemic recession and also rates of post-pandemic recoveries in the countries across the world. Material and labour shortages were also a problem in many recovering economies.

Following this introductory presentation, 9 individual country Fluid Power Trade Associations made presentations some of which contain specific fluid power performance information as follows:

Czech Republic

Click here for the presentation by CAHP which contains general economic data upto Q2 2021. The Czech Republic was badly hit by a third wave of Covid infections but recent Government investment in infrastructure (roads, bridges etc) is helping to boost the recovery, with mobile hydraulics benefitting the most.

Finland

Click here for the presentation by FHPA, the newly reformed Finnish fluid power association which contains hydraulic and pneumatic sales up to 2020 and some Q1 results.

France

Click here for the presentation by ARTEMA, which includes 2020 results and forecasts for 2021 for hydraulics (+14% mobile and +7% industrial) and pneumatics (+12%) ad highlights some key problems such as supply chain issues constraining business.

Germany

Click here for the presentation by VDMA, which includes detailed hydraulics and pneumatics information including end user industries and forecasts for 2021, with both hydraulics and pneumatics well placed in the “boom” quadrant on the Ifo Business Cycle Clock in September 2021. Most end user markets are growing but supply chain shortages are causing major problems in Germany.

Italy

Click here for the presentation by Assofluid, which indicates the home market for hydraulics up by 24.1% and pneumatics up by 29.3% compared to January to June 2020. Orders were much higher than this with supply chain problems and a lack of raw materials causing major problems.

Netherlands

Click here for the presentation by FEDA, which contains general economic data indicating improvements in PMI and investment as the post Covid recovery continues.

Sweden

Click here for the presentation by SFMA, including macro indicators to June 2021 and one slide on percentages changes of 2020/2019 for hydraulics only. Logistics and supply shortages were mentioned as hampering recovery and also the challenge of electricity supply since several nuclear plants had closed. The wind sector was reported as strong but no new investment in oil and gas.

Turkey

Click here for the presentation by AKDER, containing hydraulic and pneumatic sales to 2020 and forecasts for 2021, with some information on key factors affecting fluid power end user markets and products in Turkey – similar problems were listed as in other countries high energy, transport and raw material costs etc.

UK

Click here for the presentation by BFPA, which contains general economic data and fluid power data to August 2021.

A discussion followed on what each country was doing regarding the sustainability of fluid power, and what CETOP could do in this regard which would be continued at the next meeting planned for early 2022.
